The purpose of this unique camp is to provide freshman, sophomore, and junior high school baseball players the opportunity to participate in an intense baseball experience where the athletes will fine tune their skills, develop proper training techniques, develop a positive mental approach the to game of baseball, and complete in game competition from players from Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois.
Select Team Enrollment
The Select Camps will offer player focused professional instruction in position play and hitting through skill development drills, practices, and actual game participation. Instruction will be hands on and personal. Our coach to player ratio is 1 coach to every 8 to 10 players. Through the instructional sessions you will gain knowledge and techniques needed to excel and prepare you for the next level. Game competition against other players will also give you a competitive edge and sharpen your skills.
The Showtime Sports Baseball staff consists of baseball educators, college coaches, and former professional players. Their purpose is to provide quality and personalized instruction, evaluation, and advice that players rely on in making decisions about position play, proper training techniques, college program choices, and career potential in college and/or professional baseball.
Another benefit from participating in the Select Invitational Baseball Camps is that you may be selected to participate in our High School Baseball Combine as an at-large player. These combines have been approved by the Minnesota High School Baseball Coaches Association and the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association. Players will have an opportunity to showcase their skills to collegiate recruiters and professional scouts in addition to receiving quality instruction in the areas of recruiting, baseball conditioning, and more. INSTRUCTIONAL COMPONENTS
Practice:
Practice is important and our staff will emphasize the value of practice by showing the athletes drills that teach offensive and defensive methods that they can take with them for the duration of their playing career.
Game Experience:
Athletes will be split into teams and play games. During these games, coaches will offer game related instruction pertaining to actual situations that occur. All athletes will play equally.
Pitching:
Pitchers will have the opportunity to develop the following items: proper pitching motion, mechanics of pitching, strategy, maintaining a healthy arm, grip for various pitches, efficient delivery, thought process, and working through each batter.
Hitting:
The following components will be addressed to assist in fine tuning the athletes hitting skills: stance, grip, swing, vision, follow through, concentration, count management, anticipating pitches, knowing the strike zone, and all aspects of bunting.
Fielding & Throwing:
Fielding and throwing is addressed by infield and outfield positions. Technique refinement will include defensive stance, glove handling, throwing to bases, tagging, rundowns, base back-ups, double plays, fly balls, and pop-ups.
Catching:
Fundamentals covered include team leadership, catching stance, receiving, blocking pitches, throwing, calling pitches, tagging runners, fielding bunts, and catching pop-ups.
Video Analysis:
Players may choose hitting or pitching. An individual session will be held during camp with each player to discuss / breakdown techniques.
Strength & Conditioning:
Players will receive excellent tips and drills from our staff that they can take home and apply immediately to their development as an athlete.
FACILITIES
2 professionally groomed fields, 16,000 square foot field house, 2 batting cages, 6 practice pitching mounds, field batting cage, pitching machines, dormitories, cafeteria.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Lodging: Players will reside in the University dorms, 2 player per room
Meals: Prepared and served by University kitchen staff
Enrollment: Early enrollment is critical. Each Select Baseball Camp has a limited number of openings.
WHAT TO BRING
Personal Items: street clothes, gym shoes, underwear, shorts, t-shirts, sweat shirts, pants, shampoo, toothpaste, other toilet articles, pillow, fan, alarm clock, towels.
Playing Equipment: baseball pants (for games), glove and/or mitt, baseball shoes, your own bat, pitcher's jacket, supporter and cup, baseball cap, baseball socks, and gym shoes for indoor workouts. Mark all of your clothing and equipment.
Catcher's Equipment: Players are encouraged to bring their own catching gear. We provide it for games if you don't bring your own (excluding the glove).
